I especially enjoyed Timberly's video today - as I tend to be mostly a half-full kind of person. Even when times are really tough, I tend to look for the bright side of things.

But, there are times I wonder if the half-empty types don't sometimes see things a little more realistically?

What do you think?

Speaking as a previously half-full kind-of person....I don't see half-full as "the bottom-line" of realistic. Reality is what you choose it to be (from what I've read and now choose to believe). Now I'm very careful about what I think and 'how I be' in this life.

Take death for example: is it reality that someone/something dies? depends on how you choose to see it....people/animals/'things' seem to leave the earth when the time for leaving arrives - this is death, this is a 'reality' ~ but we have named this 'leaving' death, we don't really know what happens to the person/animal/'thing'...we just know that we don't SEE it anymore the way we saw it before, so it must be dead (and this is mostly painful for us so we don't like it). But science says that energy cannot be destroyed only changed. Are people/animals/'things' energy? I think most would say yes. So if that is true than there is no true death for that energy, only a change into another form. This is also a 'reality'. Is it half-full to believe in an after-life? Maybe, but not necessarily. It's just a believe. It just is. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

Another part of it is choosing to not let the 'little' stuff upset you and your life. My husband and I were in a car accident a few months ago. We were banged up, but not hurt. The car was totalled though (RIP Hybrid). We adored our hybrid! But being upset wouldn't bring it back, the only thing that would accomplish is just what it says, we'd be upset. It's a car, a beloved car, but a car none the less. We went to the hospital laughing and giggling about this and that as we always do. It's who we are. It's how we choose to spend our time. Some people would have gotten angry with the person who caused the accident and yelled and screamed (in this case it was totally the other guy's fault, he turned left in front of us at the VERY LAST second). We actually never had a chance to talk to him. Sure, we've said what he did was dumb, that he wasn't paying any attention to the fact that he was driving, but we've also said hey, he's a human being and human beings sometimes mess stuff up and make mistakes. We've been annoyed with the insurance companies (you know how they can be), but all in all....we've been realistic and still half-full. We didn't allow the situation to ruin all the moments we've had since then (and the stuff with the insurance companies is still going on). We still laugh, we still enjoy, we still live with our eyes on positivity.

I see the world as terribly beautiful and beautifully terrible. There are loads of horrible awful terrifying things that happen. I know that. I wish that stuff didn't happen anymore, but I cannot control it. I can only control who I am. There are also loads of wonderfully amazing fabulous things that happen too. I know this deeply. I spent many years on the half-empty 'life isn't fair' stuff. It's half-full's turn and half-full says "Life may not appear to be fair. This can be your judgment. Or you can trust that there is a balance being kept and remain open to the AWESOME unknown that Life really is." This is a 'reality' that happens to be my reality. It's the one I choose. I just don't see any point in half-empty for me. But again, there is a balance. I just said this the other day - previously I was half-empty, I'm sure I had a counterpoint on the half-full side balancing my negative energy with positive energy. Now I've changed sides, I'm sure I've gained a new counterpoint who I am balancing for. Personally, I just think Life is really neat. The way it 'works' amazes me.
