Hello. So far all of us who have written anything agree it's a shame that New Morning is off the air. I'd like to see us make a go of this community now. Over a hundred people have looked at some of these posts, but only a handful have written anything. I am very curious to know what people are thinking about, what keeps you going, what makes your day, what helps you get through the day? I think we have a lot to say to one another.

I'll introduce myself: I am an interim minister in the United Church of Christ living in a suburb of Portland, Oregon. I have been taking some time off from work, but will soon be applying for two interim positions that just opened up in our area. I view myself as a liberal protestant Christian in the Reformed tradition. I am interested in and open to many types of spiritual practice. One of my denomination's mottos is "God is still speaking..." meaning that God is still active in the universe reaching out to us and revealing truth to us in many ways.

Questions to ponder: Who are you? What is on your mind? your heart? How is God speaking in your life today?

I really don't know what to say but I feel compelled to be here. My story is not anything too special except that Parkinsons has set me out on a journey which unlike some I must say is thrilling. Though I have a terrible time walking and am in a lot of pain, I feel my Lords presence always. I have learned so much in the past six months and have made so many friends. Everyday is filled with new things to conquer. My most recent challenge is a broken leg which I received the 9th of January from my billy goat. This has caused me to be wheelchair bound right now which is good practice for later....It also gives me a new prospective on my surrondings and how they can be changed to meet my ever increasing needs. I love poetry and rural life and live very simply. My 82 year old mother lives next door to me and is in the early stages of Alzeheimers. I am her caregiver and I have none. I have been divorced since 1985 and have raised three beautiful kids basically on my own. I am the happiest I have ever been and though it is very hard to explain I feel that I am here to help others while I learn who I am. Oh and I tend to ramble on......POKIE

One of the things about life is it keeps us moving forward towards discovery. I work with challenged individuals from severe to high-functioning. What I know for sure is they teach me every day about the need to be heard about what they want from life. I learn about having a sense of humor; a willingness to strive beyond what appears impossible; and to give unconditional love.

In the beginning of my fifth decade of life, my experience has taught me learning continues. My grandchildren teach me to see life from a perspective I'd forgotten. Simple, complex and adventurous imaginations open doors for me to venture beyond the often closed doors of elders. I've traveled around the world which has led me to understanding there are more avenues to spirituality, cultural ways, and wisdom which is often lost in the western world of high tech and achieving. Sometimes the absence of technology allows for nature to speak to our hearts...

Those are my adventures in living...

Pokie,

You really inspired me! I've been feeling sorry for myself lately and don't even have Parkinsons's or a mother with Alzheimers (although I used to have an aggressive goat named Nanny who chased me and invoked fear...)

Pokie, when you get really really down (and don't have New Morning any more), how do you cope? I guess I get through by calling a friend for distraction.

My yoga class homework last week was to notice Joy...I couldn't do it! We get to pick HW this week: I'm going for Gratitude. I too love poetry and the rural life.

Thanks, Pokie...you've helped me!

Hi,

I was thinking this morning how wise the Creator is... as a writer, I am always looking for and reading everything so that my weekly column has a firm foundation to build upon... I have a book called "One Heart: Wisdom from the World's Scriptures" edited by Bonnie Louise Kuchler. What consistently is so profound is in each topic heading ie., Compassion, the editor has drawn from the various faith traditions the words of wisdom for that topic. What is profound is the sameness of thought from each tradition. Surely the Source of this wisdom streams from the Creator. Makes one understand how permeating throughout the traditions is the Wisdom that we are ALL meant to hear.

Who Am I? I'm a woman reaching my mid-fifties that is trying to start a Internet Business with my best friend. So we can have extra cash for the summer to take a nice vacation with our other friend & her Dad. I know we've gotta put our minds & hearts into this business but that means we gotta start practicing positive thinking. Which is one thing saying you gotta & practicing it everyday. God is speaking to me though my Spirits, My Guardarian Angel, & God Himself but as ususual I'm being stubborn on hearing them. So I gotta put my mind & heart into my prayers & meditations daily so we can get this business off the ground. Annie54

Dear Weezee61

May I also offer my hand in friendship? I am part of the Parkies for Life group under our wise woman, Pokie. I have had cancer and lost both parents to cancer. I also have young onset PD and have had the same surgery as your sister. I think we could have some things in common.

Best wishes
Nicole(browncat87)

HI POKIE, thanks for your response things are getting better, i am goning to put my home for sale, hopefully i will be able to move closer to my kids and sister. i think that the hardest thing is being so far from family and friends, if it wasn't for my neighbors who are ANGELS I would be in a fix. i had hip surgery in january so i am walking with a walker, but i am blessed because there are people bigger problems. as soon as i am able i will help someone or someones to pass it on. i hope things are well for you, and you have ANGELS to help you, hang in there your friend.

weezie 61 Isn't terrible when we have to finally ask for help and find out that our frinds were jus waiting to help? Hang in there girl. You sound tough and that little gal that contacted you Is beyond words when it comes to strength. She had brain surgery in April and is a brown belt in tai Kando. Well last week she went and got a new outfit and went back to class. I love her alot and if you need a group to belong to come on over you don't have to be a parkie to join. Nicole (browncat said we should call it" friends for life". I don't know all the ins and outs here yet so stay in touch...pokie

Hi,weezie and Pokie,

I do indeed prefer "Friends for Life" because it is more inclusive and my name is Nicole, not Parkie. It is just a thing i have, but I am struggling to put PD in its place for a while, to think of it more as a daily inconvenience, instead of something that on the last few months has threatened to swallow me whole. I love Pokie and all the people whom have become so close through PLM and people like you, weezie, who I have had the good fortune to meet by computer. That is why I want to change our name but I am making Pokie do that because I am not smart enough. Pokie has led me here to help continue my healing by reconnecting to faith and prayer. She is one of my "wise women" . I have also been taken aback at how much prayer and support from friends and family came out of the woodwork from my surgery. It is a long road back that I continue to walk baby step by baby step. God, Pokie and all my friends still at my elbow are so awesome. Praise God!

Nicole and all I will change the name and pray this place for us becomes what each of us need to complete our lives in the fashion God wishes. You stand at such an open door with so many watching you. I know how scared you must feel being so public. The first two weeks I realized how many people knew who Pokie was and everything about Pokie, I freaked. I was everywhere it seemed and did not want to be. But , Nicole, God had put me there to do the one and only thing I can do well mother....listen as only a mother can and make you laugh or pray with you or cry with you but mentally hold you until the storm has passed. FRENDS FOR LIFE we will be even if I can't change it....love pokie
